Markley--- John Markley, the father of Joseph W. Markley, was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1794, and moved to Richland county, Ohio, in 1815. Lived there until 1835, when he moved to Fulton county, Illinois, and settled on section 26, in Young Hickory township; where he still resides; Joseph W. Markley, the fourth child, lived with his parents until he was 23 years of ages when he married Miss Rebecca Jane Harrell, in 1847, the daughter of Joel Harrel, who died in White county; Illinois, in 1846. Joseph W. Markley settled on section 25, in Young Hickory township, where he still resides. He is the father of seven children -- six living, three boys and three girls. Mrs. Markley's parents came from South Carolina; moved to North Carolina, then to Kentucky, and came to Illinois about the year 1819; and settled in White county; where he died at the age of 97 years. He served his country seven years in the revolutionary war; was the father of thirty-three children, his wife having nine at three births. Mr. Harrell only lost about forty hours' time by natural sickness during his whole life. He was married three times, his last wife being but seventeen years old when he married her, and he was seventy. She bore him twelve children. She is still living in White county; in her 77th year, and enjoys good health. Joseph W. Markley is engaged in farming and raising stock; has been collector of Young Hickory township for several years, and is popular with all his neighbors.
